City Farms Grower Coalition

Growing farmers in Chattanooga, Tennessee

Our vision is to cultivate a community of empowered people breaking down barriers of race, class, and culture to defeat hunger in Chattanooga.

With the support of our partner organizations UTC and The Howard School, City Farms has been able to facilitate experiential learning opportunities through the growing of food, from seed to harvest. This hands-on learning opportunity strengthens our understanding of local food systems, food justice, and community-- all through the process of growing delicious, healthy food!

Students in Megan Hartline’s Writing for Social Change class work Friday, April 5, 2024 in the community garden on Main Street.

collaborative partnerships

Our partners provide the soil and the spirit that allow us to flourish. We've put down roots in garden sites like The Howard Roots Youth Farm and NEEMA Community Garden.

hands-on training

It takes a village to feed a village. We help communities build the skills they need to sustain themselves on their terms.

experiential learning

We're raising young farmers from the gardens at the Clifton Hills Elementary outdoor classroom to the greenhouse at the Historic Howard School. We envision building a coalition of young farmers that are equipped to put the culture back in agriculture.
